I just spent 10 minutes trying to talk to my girlfriend while her daughter decided to decry the state of the world in as loud a voice as she was capable of. Oy vey.
Years ago, I heard a theory that children's cries were evolutionarily designed so that the adults of the species found them grating as hell as a survival mechanism. Based on my reactions to this little girl's screams of discontent, I would have to say that they might be on to something there...
